Can someone please briefly explain the best way to check your rod ends...front and rear and to explain what you are looking for in a worn out rod end??? Does anything have to be taken apart to make this examination?

Essentially you are looking for 'play' in the rod-end when you give the suspension up rights a tug they should not move.  If the rod end is worn there will be a few mm of play.  Nothing needs to be taken apart, just give each bit of the suspension a firm tug and nothing should move.

My rod ends are safety wired (car #106) so I'd assume this is a non-issue on my car, right?

^NOT true.Safety wire will not hold the separated rod end from lifting off the upright.

The washers are inexpensive and easy to put on.They won't mess up any alignment settings.

the wiring doesn't really do much, but if it breaks you know there could be an issue
