Guys, I'm thinking of going to New York for a short break  :)

Would be much appreciated if anyone could recommend places to visit, things to do and most important of all
...best places to eat  :tu:

Cheers

stay the hell out of NY haha, just kidding....

I'd say if you don't get any direct referrals, go to www.foodnetwork.com and look around there a bit, that tv channel is huge here and based out of NY, I guarantee you should be able to find the best restaurants from that website.

Its good fun just to walk around looking at the sights, so much that you have seen on TV / in films will seem familiar to you.  Trip up the Empire state building is fun as is the Staten Island Ferry.  Good gadget shops are numerous and very cheap with the weak dollar.

I watched one of those holiday programmes where the person went to NY for a short break and to avoid jet lag left his watch on UK time.  He had just as much fun and some special experinces late at night, NY time, as the city never sleeps.

Went there for the first time a few years ago.  As others have said everything you see is from a movie and nothing disappointed, it all lived up to and above my expectations, well maybe not Kats diner, where Sally had her fake orgasm with Harry.  Grand central Station restaurant is worth visiting, especially if you're into eating fish.

It is a great place.

If it's still there, you should try and ice skate at the Rockefeller - that's VERY movie!

As is coming out of Bloomingdales with hat boxes

And Grand Central

And Carnegie deli

There's a great breakfast to be had at a restaurant directly opposite the Grand Central exit onto 5th Avenue (I think that was where it was anyhow).

Central Park should obviously be on your itineray.

The navy/air force museum over at the docks is well worth a visit if you get the time.

NY is a great place - there's something to see at virtually every corner.  Love it.

Cheers, Ross.

Hey Kin,

Fellow Brit here - I went to NYC for the first time on March 23rd last year and met my other half, we stayed at the Astoria (great place to hang out, people watch, especially the Bull and Bear bar downstairs, love that place) - anyhoos exactly 9 months later we had a little baby girl on the 23rd December! LOL :D

So be careful !!! ;D ;D ;D

My other half Sandy lived in NYC for a few years, she's an artist so took me to some of the nabes she used to hang out in ... I like bars so we went to some great ones...

The Ear Bar - lower west side, maybe 14th st? - GREAT food, locals hangout, bit of a dive bar in a good way...

The Corner Bistro - west 4th st and jane, best burgers in town, was once a speakeasy, gets v busy with lines waiting for burgers, so you know they're good ... don't do what i did and order the chilliburger, stick with their cheesburger if u go...

Anywhere below 14th st u can't go wrong

NYC lived up to expectations, I'll certainly be going back as often as I can. :tu:

Atom fund started, sterling silver key chain bought, vanity plate about to be ordered!
